WORKSHOP:
Implementing a Food Defense
Program
8
July 2010 Cape Town
|
|

|
Food safety is defined as unintentional
contamination of food whereas food defence is the intentional
contamination of food. This could be caused by terrorists, extortionists,
extremists, criminals or disgruntled employees. Whilst the threat
is greater in western countries such as the USA or Europe, it
still remains a significant and growing risk to all food manufacturers
worldwide. It is also fast becoming a prerequisite requirement
for global food export and included in all major food safety certification
schemes. In South Africa food defence is generally over simplified
by seeing it as perimeter and gate security only.
This hands-on workshop, brought over from AIB international
in the USA , administrated by FACTS SA and customised for South
Africa, provides practical guidelines on the content and implementation
of a food defence program.
