If our testing catalogue does not include the test you require, we will find another laboratory that can perform that specific test from our network of reputable labs. In addition, we will manage the process of having your sample tested by the laboratory on your behalf. Our facilitated testing services allows an uncomplicated, holistic testing experience from start to finish.

The FACTS facilitated testing service includes the following steps:

Sourcing appropriate laboratories

This includes requesting the correct or appropriate analysis from the outsourced laboratory, and confirming the accreditation status of the outsourced laboratory for the specific sample matrix and to achieve your specific objectives.

Coordinating multiple analyses

In some instances, the analyses you require may not be offered at a single lab. In such cases our facilitated testing services will simplify the testing process for you and remove the accompanying stress. We will handle the courier, individual sample submission forms, PO’s and payment for lab services, and we’ll follow up on the results. You simply send your samples to us, indicate which analyses you need and make one payment.

Establishing a suitable LOD

We will ensure that the analysis offered by the outsourced laboratory has an LOD that is low enough to confirm compliance with the relevant regulations. An example which illustrates the importance of this: the maximum permitted level of lead in milk is 0.02 mg/kg. If the LOD of the method used by a particular laboratory to measure lead is 0.05 mg/kg, it is unsuitable for testing lead content your milk sample, and we will find another laboratory that complies with the regulation.

Interpreting test results

Interpretation of results will be done in accordance with local and/or international regulations – or your own internal standards or specifications, if required. Whether you need one, the other, or both, FACTS can assist.

What does it cost?

All facilitated analyses are charged according to the outsourced laboratory’s quotation. No mark-up is added to the testing costs. FACTS charges a facilitation fee of R950 excluding VAT per order (not per individual analysis) to cover the value-added services listed above. This amount is subject to increase depending on the size of the order and the specific analyses requested.

  • For example, the facilitation fee for nutritional analysis is R1 500 excluding VAT per order for up to five samples, as the extent of interpretation is greater than it would be for a single sample.
    • A registered dietitian recommends an appropriate serving size for the specific product.
    • Test results are interpreted according to this serving size.
    • Test results are formatted into a regulatory-compliant nutritional table for labelling purposes.
    • Test results are interpreted according to the relevant regulations to determine the feasibility of making particular claims.

When can I expect results?

Lead times are analysis-dependent, but the process generally takes 10 to 14 working days, excluding the day the sample is received at the FACTS laboratory. We strive to get the results to you as soon as possible after receiving them from the outsourced laboratory. This usually takes no more than two working days; however, this will depend on the extent of the interpretation of results required.
