COVID-19 has undoubtedly impacted all our lives in one way or another, and has caused disruption in our daily routines. This is a sensitive time; but it’s also an opportunity to introduce change, and take on challenges to improve our lives and make a difference.
At FACTS, we continue to promote a culture of growth by improving ourselves and our company practices; and at the same time, we help to hold each other accountable.
The journey that brought us to this internal campaign began by considering the cost of not prioritising a circular economy. A movement towards implementing sustainable goals as a company and as individuals was sparked, and the #SustainabilityChallenge was conceptualised.
Each team member had to choose two goals from the list provided, and implement them in their daily lives for the three months (1 August 2020 to 31 October 2020). A third goal was also chosen, to be a collective goal shared between all team members.
Shared goal as a team
#Goal 4: Quality Education: Each team member brings old books that they are happy to donate. The FACTS team collects all the books and divided them into three piles, and then we collectively decide who will be our ambassador to deliver the books to each of three chosen organisations or individuals.
As a company, FACTS contributed to the following goals for the three-month period, and we have decided to continue implementing them going forward.
#Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being : A bowl of fruit has been placed in our kitchen area and has been made available to everyone at the office, to promote healthy eating.
#Goal 13: Climate Action: Recycling bins have been installed at our office and are regularly emptied into larger recycling bins within the building complex to ensure materials intended for recycling are collected.
Keeping each other motivated
We created a WhatsApp group, and invited all team members participating in this challenge to share their progress through audio and visual content, as well as sharing relatable content to educate and inspire.
This has opened dialogue within our company culture around the importance of sustainable living.
Since that initial spark, creative, inspiring, and innovative conversations and actions around sustainability have become part of our company culture and will continue to grow each year, as we challenge ourselves to bring sustainability into our lives and the lives of those around us.
We are proud of all our team members for their contributions and efforts in this campaign.
2021 – We look forward to what next year may bring, and to the many innovative ideas our team will create.
We invite you, our clients and colleagues, to share your ideas of how we can make a difference in the day-to-day. It would be great to start a conversation about sustainability with a wider audience. Let’s talk!
