The NEW SANS 10049 Draft is out!

A new draft version of SANS 10049: 2019 on Food safety management – Requirements for prerequisite programmes (PRPs), has been out for circulation since January. The circulation period closed on Friday 29 March.

Should the draft be accepted as is and published as the new standard, it has several additions that must be considered.

What’s new?

The draft standard now refers to several other SANS standards; also, eight new definitions have been included.

Section 6 of the draft includes a section on outsourced activities (subsection 6.6) that was not included previously, as well as newly added points in subsection 7.2 detailing construction and layout requirements.

The draft includes completely new subsections on waste management (subsection 7.5) and medical conditions (7.7) in section 7; and final product specifications (8.3), food-safety hazards (8.10) and traceability (8.11), among others in section 8.

There are also new sections detailing requirements for high-risk areas (section 9), verification (10), and a whole section dedicated to TACCP (11).
